JOE JULIAN FARRUGIA, writer / lyricist, introduced his works in public in the mid 90's and has taken regular part in Maltese song contests including Song for Europe, International Festival of Maltese Song, Ghanja tal-Poplu (The People's Song) and Independence Contest. Besides various prestigious placings in these contests, Joe Julian was voted best lyricist in the Gozo Festival 1995 and Ghanja tal-Poplu 1999. He also won the popular vote in the Independence Contest 2002. His lyrics stepped into the international fora and in 1999 his song Jekk Ghada ma Jisbahx was chosen by American Airlines to be played whenever a passenger requested to listen to music from Malta. The same song was also highlighted in Fred Bronson's Pop Goes the World on worldwide Music Choice digital radio from the United States. In international song contests, Joe Julian won, among others, the Discovery Festival (Bulgaria 2003) and both categories in Ti Amo (Romania 2004) the latter earning him a Diploma from Prof. Del Serra of Florence's University. His song Life is a Train was released by NBT Records (U.S.) in a compilation disc sold over three continents. He was the lyricist of musical Diana - Queen of Hearts, and wrote closing songs for television programmes including Medik, Min hu bla Htija, Ward u Zahar and Il-Principal. Lately he was assigned the writing of the Haddiem tas-Sena 2004 anthem. Television drama is another area in Joe Julian's writing consisting of 30 episodes in Simpatici, 5 episodes in L-Aqwa Mhux Malta and the whole series of Il-Principal. Joe Julian was a regular contributor in a Sunday newspaper for 4 years. He also produced television programmes such as Menz, Is-Sahha Sabiha, Kanape`, Dr. Peel, Xalamita, Relax and Indigo. He has also been HBP’s PR since year 2000.
