Joe Brown was born on the 23rd of October 1959 in a musical family. At the age of 5, Joe started to play the drums. At the age of 10, he began to attend piano lessons under the tutorship of Betty Eastwood. Then he travelled to the United Kingdom where he successfully studied modern music production, direction and arrangement at a music college in Manchester.

Back in Malta Joe was chosen to play keyboards an the National Festival Orchestra until 1995 when he was asked to direct the same orchestra for both the song for Europe contest and Malta Song Festival and other festivals such as Ghanja fil-Melodija. He composed the music for the musical about Princess Diana; Queen of Hearts. He also wrote the soundtracks of television serials Enigma, Ipokriti and Simpatici. And the music for ballet performances Alien Princess and Slaves of Medina, both for Olivia Dow School of Russian Ballet. He produced, arranged and directed several concerts including Andrew Lloyd Webber Gala Special at the Mediterranean Conference Centre and other concerts for local singers such as Freddie Portelli, Mary Spiteri, Renato, Enzo Guzman, Joe Cutajar and the Hollywood Musicals Concert at the New Dolmen.

Joe is married to Josephine nee Micallef and has two daughters, Abigail (also composer) and Amy.
